About The Position

This is a paid, full-time cooperative education position for undergraduate students interested in gaining hands-on practical experience in the construction field. Qualified applicants will assist project teams in managing construction projects, including all phases from bidding to final completion. Assignments include office and job site work, and relocation to remote sites may be required. Transportation is required. Work periods are 10-12 weeks with 40 hours per week. Housing may be provided in certain situations. Cooperative education refers to a program where students alternate between academic semesters with semesters spent working paid, full-time positions in their industry.

Requirements

  • Open to undergraduate students interested in gaining hands-on practical experience in the construction field.
  • Transportation is required.
  • Must be able to work 10-12 week periods, 40 hours/week.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in managing construction projects, including all phases from bidding to final completion.
  • Learn the engineering and technical aspects of the project both in the field and in the office.
  • Perform quantity take-off.
  • Assist with layout.
  • Conduct preconstruction/as-built surveys.
  • Review/approve shop drawings and maintain log.
  • Review/approve submittals and maintain log.
  • Review/submit requests for information (RFI) and maintain log.
  • Respond to subcontractor RFIs.
  • Interface with subcontractors & suppliers.
  • Attend weekly progress meetings.
  • Assist with coordinating the work between the owner, architect & subcontractors.
  • Assist during the bid process.
  • Assist with reviewing construction documents & specifications.
  • Assist with reviewing all document revisions & clarifications.
  • Assist with maintaining field records.
  • Assist with estimates/budgets/value engineering/constructability surveys.
  • Assist with writing contracts & purchase orders.
  • Assist with preparing billings to owner & submitting change orders.
  • Assist with approval of invoices.
  • Assist with ordering & expediting materials.
  • Assist with scheduling & updates.
  • Assist with quality control & safety.
  • Assist with settling contracts.
  • Assist with permit process.
  • Assist with performing costing, scheduling, estimating & project management.
  • Assist with punchlist & project closeout.
  • Cooperate & work with field project management.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
