About The Position

The Lovett Conservatory is seeking a part-time, 10-month Conservatory of Music Instructor for the 2026-2027 academic year. This position involves providing one-on-one musical instruction to students across all grade levels (K-12) and skill levels. The instructor will be responsible for inspiring individual musical growth, fostering a love of music, building technical proficiency, and preparing advanced students for collegiate-level performance. Collaboration with other music program faculty is essential to ensure a cohesive and well-rounded musical education. The role also requires creating a positive and encouraging learning environment, upholding school behavioral guidelines, and adapting to Lovett's schedule, which may include teaching during the school day or before/after regular school hours, as well as offering virtual lessons when appropriate.

Requirements

Bachelor of Music Degree or significant professional playing experience (Master of Music preferred).
Professional-level playing experience on your instrument.
2 years experience of private instructor or teaching younger students (K-8) and/or high school musicians (9-12).

Responsibilities

Provide personalized, one-on-one instruction on an instrument of expertise, meeting students at their current level and guiding them toward their goals.
Teach students across all grade levels (K-12) and skill levels (beginner through pre-collegiate).
Assess each student's abilities, interests, and goals to create individualized lesson plans.
Foster a love of music while building technical proficiency and musicianship.
Prepare advanced students for collegiate-level performance, auditions, and competitions.
Coordinate with Lower, Middle, and Upper School ensemble directors to align lesson content with ensemble curriculum.
Support students' participation in school concerts, recitals, and performances.
Participate in Conservatory meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development.
Foster a safe, encouraging space where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired.
Uphold Lovett's behavioral guidelines and model professionalism.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors about student progress.
Use varied teaching techniques, including technology, to engage students and deepen their learning.
Encourage critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication through music.
Accommodate Lovett's rotating school schedule for lessons during the school day, OR teach before/after regular school hours (early morning or afternoon/evening slots).
Offer virtual lessons when appropriate to meet student and family needs.
