About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Conservator, Textiles, the Conservator, Textiles examines and treats works of art from LACMA’s collection using scientific methods and interpreting the findings.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in conservation or seven to ten years of related experience
  • Minimum 4 years of specialized training in an area of expertise in Textiles Conservation

Responsibilities

  • Treats works of art for preservation and restoration
  • Examines and documents works of art through technical studies
  • In the absence of the Senior Conservator, oversees the section ensuring procedures are followed, supplies ordered, and schedules met
  • Reviews and writes condition reports for loans, borrowed, acquired, exhibited and stored works of art
  • Couriers works of art.
  • Advises the Museum on environmental controls, examines findings and works with Conservation Technicians
  • Lectures and publishes on conservation findings, keeping informed on current literature
  • In the absence of the Senior Conservator, assists with the section’s budget and coordinates the preparation and management of the conservation budget
  • Responds to inquiries from the public, conducts lab tours, and explains conservation procedures
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance
