About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is seeking Conservation/Historic Preservation Workers (CW’s) for temporary seasonal positions not exceeding six months, to be located at various sites across Illinois. Under immediate supervision, CW’s will be responsible for routine maintenance and janitorial duties of site buildings and public use areas, including groundskeeping, cleaning facilities like shelters, shower houses, and privies, and managing trash and debris. They will also operate and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, such as hand tools, and assist with habitat management and various hunting programs. Some positions may also involve site interpretation. The IDNR encourages interested applicants to apply to join their team.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school.
  • Completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Elementary knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment essential to grounds and building maintenance.
  • Ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and trucks.
  • Must be able to carry up to 60 pounds and walk over rough, broken terrain.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and janitorial duties of site buildings and public use areas, including groundskeeping, cleaning shelters, shower houses, and privies, and picking up and disposing of trash, litter, and debris.
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including cleaning/repairing hand tools, changing oil, fluids, filters, spark plugs, and belts.
  • Assist in habitat management and various hunting programs.
  • Assist in area preparation and operation for the various hunting seasons.
  • Assist in the inspection of public use areas for public safety and hazards.
  • Explain site rules and regulations to users.
  • Perform site interpretation (for some CW’s at select locations).
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
