About The Position

Sauk County is seeking a Conservation Educator to join the Land Resources and Environment team. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive information and education program focused on agricultural, environmental, and zoning issues within the county. The position will also offer technical guidance to the department and provide advice to property owners, organizations, and governmental units on soil and water conservation practices. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Soil and Water Conservation, Natural Resources, Agronomy, or another related field
Two (2) years of experience in soil and water conservation planning
Two (2) years of experience conducting conservation outreach and education programs
Valid Wisconsin State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License

Responsibilities

Organize and coordinate conservation education programs for landowners, including field days, tours, demonstrations, award programs, and the development and distribution of educational materials.
Create, plan, and prepare new educational programs aligned with the Land and Water Resource Management (LWRM) Plan goals.
Set up and facilitate special meetings or workshops on environmental and zoning issues.
Create and coordinate a team of farmers and agriculture professionals to promote agricultural conservation practices using the Sauk County Farm as a demonstration site.
Execute and coordinate a media program, including interviews, news articles, public service announcements, website content, newspaper features, and radio/television segments.
Develop, publish, distribute, and edit the countywide newsletter.
Oversee the Ag Plastic Program and Hazardous Waste Program (Clean Sweep) in cooperation with DATCP and other entities, and prepare grant applications.
Create and manage environmental education programs and coordinate special programs for K-12 educators and youth group leaders, including youth days, classroom presentations, teacher workshops, outdoor classroom experiences, water quality monitoring, and contests.
Oversee the Backyard Conservation program, promoting urban conservation practices and managing material sales.
Act as the department's education liaison with other departments, agencies, school districts, businesses, and organizations.
Provide supervision and oversight of the Education Program Assistant LTE, assigning day-to-day work.
Manage department literature, maintaining and distributing program brochures and bulletins.
Research and identify funding sources (grants, donations) for educational and outreach programs, and apply for and manage related projects.
Disseminate information from studies and evaluations in a concise format for publication.
Conduct programs that may be held in the evening or on weekends.
Perform other duties as assigned.
