About The Position

This job is primarily utilizing chainsaws to cut down invasive trees. Safe operation of chainsaws and proper maintenance is paramount. Workdays are typically 8 to 10 hours with some shop time to maintain equipment and a majority of the time in the field cutting trees and burning slash piles. The ideal candidate will have an interest in forestry, rangeland health or simply looking to extend their season at the ranches. This is a 40-hour/week position and runs from October 26 – November 25, 2026, with some flexibility on start and end dates. Heavy snow falls and extreme temperatures could affect the total number of days worked.

Requirements

Experience with chainsaws or willingness to train a plus.
Ability to work independently and as a group.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Ability to install and remove tire chains a plus.
Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, snow, heat, sun, cold.
Must be able to traverse various terrains.
Must be able to wear necessary PPE.
Must be able to maintain focus during dangerous tasks.
Must be able to lift, move and maneuver up to 50 pounds across uneven ground.
Must have endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard 8-10 hour day.

Nice To Haves

First aid certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

Operating chainsaws to limb, cutdown and breakdown juniper trees and smaller fir trees.
Lop and scatter trees or build slash plies to be burned the following season.
Burn slash piles made the previous season.
Maintain and service chainsaws daily. Sharpen chains.
Wear and maintain proper PPE while operating saws.
Assist in other ranch duties as assigned.
Organize and maintain a clean and safe work area.
