About The Position

The Congressional Accountability Program Director will help develop and directly manage Battleground Alliance’s campaign to push back against harmful, anti-working class legislation and educate voters on the impacts of implementing those policies in their community. Working with campaign leaders, the Congressional Accountability Program Director will work with local, state, and national organizations to support accountability campaigns in +/- 40 districts. Battleground Alliance is a multi-entity campaign committed to strengthening democratic institutions and civic engagement in competitive political environments. We work to build coalitions, support grassroots organizing, and voter engagement.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10-12 years in political and community organizing with demonstrated success in competitive districts
  • Experience managing distributed teams and volunteer networks
  • Track record of successful community engagement and coalition building
  • History of development of creative actions, events, or campaigns with extensive media coverage
  • Deep understanding of power and how to best leverage collective action to increase pressure on decision makers
  • Proven ability to build grassroots infrastructure from the ground up
  • A strong understanding of how people receive information and how media is organized and consumed in local communities, with communication tactics and strategies that reflect this
  • Strong project management and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Experience with training and developing organizing talent
  • Commitment to alignment and maximizing our collective impact
  • Ability to adapt strategies to diverse communities and political environments
  • Proficiency with organizing tools (VAN, relational organizing tools, MailChimp, social media platforms)
  • Knowledge of voter file analysis and targeting methodologies
  • Familiarity with digital organizing and online engagement strategies
  • Event planning and logistics management experience

Responsibilities

  • Organize local partners to further develop accountability campaigns focused on affordability and district impacts of anti-worker policies
  • Support partners to identify, recruit, and train community leaders to lead local accountability efforts
  • Coordinate accountability strategies with national, local & state partners to maximize impact and support local partners
  • Create processes for national organizations to provide resources and messaging support for local partners
  • Build out rapid response infrastructure for urgent congressional issues
  • Engage new partners to strengthen accountability campaigns as needed
  • Ensure rigorous implementation of accountability campaigns across targeted districts and engage additional partners and tactics where campaigns aren’t strong enough
  • Support Local Partners to successfully implement accountability campaigns
  • Recess Mobilization: Execute intense accountability voter education campaigns during Congressional recess
  • Public Pressure Events: support organizing of town halls, rallies, and public forums to engage representatives
  • Grassroots Mobilization: Engage volunteer networks for maximum visibility and constituent engagement
  • Strategic Communications: Collaborate with Battleground Alliance communications team to ensure accountability campaigns are amplifying voices of directly impacted constituents and advancing narrative goals
  • Deepen Battleground Alliance Relationships and Partner Alignment
  • Center collective impact over individual organizational branding
  • Liaise, develop, and align with key local, state and some national partners to ensure accountability program success
  • Convene, organize, agenda-set and coordinate weekly accountability calls for state, local and national partners to strategize, share and learn how to sharpen accountability campaigns
  • Infrastructure & Capacity Assessment
  • Evaluate existing grassroots capacity, identify opportunities to grow coalition accountability infrastructure, and address gaps
  • Develop metrics and report progress toward accountability campaign goals
  • Track and share events and best practices for ongoing campaign development and increased partner engagement
  • Maintain accountability event calendar & reporting for internal and external audiences
  • Work with the established timeline of accountability events, and propose new events or strategies where there are gaps
  • Compile and present reports for internal and external audiences
  • Relational Organizing
  • Support the implementation of our Know Your Neighbor program, including engagement of Know Your Neighbor leaders and organizations in accountability events and organizing
