About The Position

The Home for Little Wanderers, Southeast Campus, located in Plymouth, MA is looking for Residential Counselors on a Relief basis to make a difference in the lives of youth who have experienced trauma and/or who have significant emotional and behavioral challenges in a residential setting. Our campus offers a unique recovery environment for youth, providing them with a respite from the challenging circumstances that have brought them into care, in a heavily wooded facility with a lake, walking trails, fields, a Project Adventure ropes course, and full gymnasium, utilizing evidence-based and trauma informed practices.

Requirements

• Passing the CORI/background check and having a valid ID
• HS diploma or equivalency
• Experience working with youth, particularly in a similar setting preferred
• Mainly we want people who want to help our youth, and are willing to learn how. We are happy to train people who want to make a difference in the lives of an amazing group of young people.

Responsibilities

• New employees receive training in behavior support, crisis management, trauma informed care, and best practices in social services.
• Staff learn to work in groups and run activities designed to enhance youth healthy growth and development.
• Encourage staff to come up with new ideas for activities and routines and focus on a child-centered, team approach to care.
• Participating in verbal de-escalation and physical intervention with youth
• Multi-tasking in a changing and fast-paced treatment environment
• Receiving and implement feedback in the moment and through a structured supervision process
• Ability to work evenings, holidays, weekend shifts as required
• May be required to operate a vehicle
• May be required to have a valid driver’s license and a “satisfactory” driving record
• May be required to have access to a personal vehicle for use during work hours
• May be required to use personal vehicle to transport clients on occasion if/when needed
• If required to transport clients, must maintain the minimum amounts of liability insurance as required by The Home and/or other regulatory requirements and vehicle registration must be current
