About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will facilitate configuration development and integration of New Glenn’s Upper Stage and Payload Accommodations (GS2PA) for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of GS2PA System Design. You will integrate between sub-systems to define the best design solutions across the vehicle structural, mechanical, fluids and electrical subsystems. You will assist in configuration management and in Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s). You will create and manage multiple vehicle configurations and ensure they support down stream material requirement planning. In this role, you will contribute to initiatives to improve manufacturing rate, decrease nonconformances, improve vehicle design, and support modifications. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering and at least 2+ years of experience in aircraft or spacecraft mechanical design, configuration, and layout engineering
  • Demonstrated design configuration control experience on recently developed products and equipment used in oil/gas, aircraft, or launch vehicles from early trade studies through final design, and into manufacturing and test
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and experience working in a highly integrated cross-functional team environment
  • Strong design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software and visualization tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling and planning principles and tools

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. degree in engineering and at least 5 years of experience or M.S. degree in engineering and at least 3 year of experience
  • Strong GD&T skills and experience with large tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Experience using PTC Creo and Windchill
  • Participated in a recognized configuration management training (CMII)
  • Knowledge of aerospace vehicle fabrication and assembly techniques and related quality control concepts
  • Ability to interpret and apply high-level system requirements to practical design solutions

Responsibilities

  • Support an integrated product team (IPT) in defining design solutions for vehicle modifications and variants.
  • Contribute to the integrated design solution across structural, mechanical, fluids, and electrical subsystems.
  • Assist with developing system requirements, requirement flow-down, and verification planning.
  • Participate in cross-functional trade and impact studies and document results.
  • Coordinate and communicate approved design changes between affected subsystems.
  • Assist with configuration management activities and documentation.
  • Support the preparation and processing of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
  • Help create and maintain interface definitions between subsystems, including models and control documents, under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Support inter-module integration by tracking issues and coordinating with engineers on priorities and expectations.
  • Help ensure that product configuration data is accurate and up to date for design reviews and integration milestones.
  • Track and periodically report status on assigned development tasks, including schedule risks and technical issues, to the lead engineer or IPT lead.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, test, and operations stakeholders to incorporate assembly, integrated test, and operations considerations into the equipment module design.
  • Provide technical support during integration and testing activities (e.g., resolving nonconformances, updating documentation).
  • Follow configuration management best practices and Blue Origin configuration management standards, and help others apply them on assigned tasks.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
