About The Position

The Configuration Management Analyst will support the positive train control (PTC) program and engineering department's configuration management (CM) processes for change requests, configuration, defect, and release management. This role will assist with day-to-day and long-term CM operations, coordination, and planning. The primary duties include providing Level 1 and Level 2 troubleshooting support for the product lifecycle management (PLM) system and CM related activities, tracking and documenting change requests, and ensuring configuration data is accurately updated in applicable systems. The analyst will also participate in the development of CM policies, procedures, and workflows, support baseline sets of configuration items for integrated hardware and software systems, and facilitate department and project meetings, tracking action items. Additionally, the role involves providing instruction on CM processes and software, and potentially serving as a liaison on PTC interoperability in the Change Advisory Board (CAB). The position also requires promoting safe work practices and performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-related field OR in lieu of the specified degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted that equals four (4) years in engineering or information technology (IT) systems.
  • Three (3) years of experience in configuration or change management.
  • Working knowledge of configuration, change, defect, and release management processes, concepts, principles, and techniques for a wide range of configuration-controlled items.
  • Working knowledge of configuration planning and controls.
  • Knowledge of contract requirements, specifications, and deliverables associated with configuration management processes.
  • Knowledge of CM industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Access) or similar productivity systems.
  • Familiar with Bentley ProjectWise, AssetWise or similar PLM tools.
  • Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to assist with managing projects, interacting with stakeholders, and facilitating meetings.
  • Good organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to details.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Ability to keep abreast of new CM technologies, innovations, and trends.
  • Must be willing to travel within Metra’s 6-county region.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic Level 1 and specialized Level 2 troubleshooting support for the product lifecycle management (PLM) system and CM related activities.
  • Track, document, and complete change requests.
  • Ensure configuration data and other CM information is updated accurately and entered into applicable on-line systems.
  • Participate in the development of CM policies, procedures, and workflows for change, configuration, defect, and release management.
  • Support baseline sets of configuration items for moderately complex integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Assist with facilitating department and project meetings.
  • Track, document, and distribute action items, ensuring their completion.
  • Provide instruction on processes, procedures, and software needed to support CM functions.
  • Ensure instructional materials are updated.
  • May participate as a representative for the agency as a member with the Change Advisory Board (CAB) serving as the liaison on PTC interoperability.
  • Promote safe work practices and maintain and foster a safe work environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
