Configuration Engineer

Czinger•Torrance, CA
•$111,300 - $176,720

About The Position

The Configuration Engineer manages product data and configuration processes that support the development, production, and evolution of Czinger’s Hypercar programs throughout the product lifecycle. The role covers product definition, Bills of Materials (BOMs), variants and options, engineering changes, and customer specifications. The engineer owns product configuration and definition, including engineering BOMs, product structures, part and revision data, configuration logic, effectivity, and customer specifications. They work with engineering teams to maintain product-data integrity, identify and resolve definition gaps and inconsistencies, and proactively address data quality issues. The role analyzes engineering-change impacts across parts, assemblies, vehicle configurations, production builds, inventory, procurement, and timing, then coordinates appropriate introduction and effectivity plans through implementation. The position supports existing production models, new model and variant introductions, and future vehicle programs. It also establishes configuration-management standards and processes, and improves product-development systems and workflows through better reporting, data checks, automation, and supporting tools. The work takes place in a fast-paced product-development and low-volume manufacturing environment, with future development occurring alongside ongoing production. It involves frequent computer-based work with engineering systems, technical documentation, product data, and large datasets, as well as occasional work in production and warehouse environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to quickly understand complex products, systems, and underlying data structures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to identify inconsistencies, investigate root causes, and develop practical solutions.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing requirements, and work effectively in a fast-paced product-development environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information clearly and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a proactive approach to learning, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with PLM, PDM, BOM management, configuration management, or engineering change management.
  • Experience with Siemens Teamcenter, Siemens NX, Jira, Excel, Power BI, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, robotics, or another complex engineered-product environment.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and supply-chain processes and their relationship to engineering product definition.
  • Experience working with structured datasets, reporting, and data-quality controls.
  • Scripting, programming, or automation experience using Python, SQL, VBA, Power Automate, or similar tools.
  • Experience improving technical processes, workflows, or engineering systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain product configuration and definition throughout the product lifecycle, including engineering BOMs, product structures, part and revision data, variants and options, configuration logic, effectivity, and customer specifications.
  • Work with engineering teams to identify and resolve incomplete product definitions, configuration gaps, inconsistencies, and data-quality issues.
  • Develop product and vehicle-system understanding to identify configuration and data issues proactively.
  • Analyze engineering-change impacts to parts, assemblies, vehicle configurations, production builds, inventory, procurement, and timing.
  • Define appropriate change-introduction and effectivity plans and coordinate changes from release through implementation.
  • Support product development and production execution for existing production models, new model and variant introductions, and future vehicle programs.
  • Ensure configuration and product definition are ready to support each stage of a program.
  • Establish and maintain standards and processes for BOM management, product configuration, engineering release, effectivity, and change control.
  • Identify recurring issues and develop scalable improvements to workflows, reporting, data-quality checks, automation, and supporting tools to reduce manual effort, implementation time, cost, and downstream risk.
