About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking Configuration Design Engineers to join their Airplane Configuration & Integration (AC&I) organization in BCA Product Development (PD) in Charleston, SC. In this role you will be part of a team that leads the design, development and integration of innovative, world-class commercial aerospace vehicles. We shape how the world travels. You will collaborate with engineering leaders, customers and partners to lead multi-disciplinary engineering design teams. You will demonstrate a growth mindset, can-do attitude, versatility, flexibility and excellent communication and leadership skills. We are looking for experienced airplane designers with a range of the following skills and abilities: Broad knowledge of airplane-level requirements and interrelated design conditions, and the ability to conceptually size and lay out market-leading commercial air vehicles Leadership in the preliminary design process –bringing multi-disciplinary design teams to optimized trade study decisions A resolute optimist, a visionary of new technologies and methods to continually advance the state of the art in commercial aviation Technical depth in various airplane design disciplines – a critical thinker knowledgeable about fundamentally sound airplane architectures Ability to quantitatively support technical conclusions through analytical data and develop new analytical tool capability when necessary Advocate of the airplane as a balanced market and technical solution

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • Successful candidates for this job must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
  • To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • Aeronautical/Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Working/Comprehensive/Expert knowledge of aircraft performance in one or more of the following areas: aerodynamics, stability and control, propulsion, structures, payloads or airplane systems
  • Working/Comprehensive/Expert knowledge of engineering design/analysis tools, such as CATIA, CAMEO
  • Experience with Multi-disciplinary Design, Analysis and Optimization, applied to aerospace vehicle product development
  • Experience developing interactive user interface computer software for configuration synthesis
  • Experience with object-oriented programming and ‘clean code’
  • Proficient in one or more computer languages (Python, VB.net, C#, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Synthesizes new and innovative conceptual/preliminary aerospace vehicles
  • Leads development of aerospace vehicle requirements (e.g., range, payload, operating and lifecycle cost)
  • Designs and analyzes vehicle configurations from customer requirements
  • Leads multi-discipline trade studies to assess design space and concept viability
  • Defines, proposes and leads innovative trade studies to meet complex design space, cost effectiveness and regulatory requirements
  • Develops multi-disciplinary configuration optimization tools and processes
