About The Position

The County of San Diego's Office of County Counsel has current openings for CONFIDENTIAL PARALEGAL-GENERAL LITIGATION. The County Counsel’s Office generally supports remote teleworking and a teleworking schedule with a mix of in-office and remote work may be available for this position. Interviews will be held soon after the application period closes. The list generated from this recruitment may also be used to fill other future vacancies. Confidential Paralegals assist in discovery, motion practice and trial preparation of litigation and associated cases, and trial support during trial. The ideal candidate is an experienced paralegal who functions effectively in a busy legal office; works with a high degree of autonomy and independence; and is a quick learner, capable of performing a wide range of paralegal duties. The ideal candidate can also work in a fast-paced environment with responsibility for an assigned case load- someone with experience preparing for, and participating in, jury trials. Helpful skills include knowledge of federal, state and local court rules; the ability to use Excel, Word, case management systems, SharePoint and OneDrive, as well as experience; drafting discovery; case summaries and some motion practice, as well as the ability to propose case specific discovery strategies. Requirements

  • Completion of an American Bar Association accredited paralegal program (copy of certification must be submitted with application); OR, Eighteen (18) months of experience performing paralegal work in a public or private law office.
  • Experience preparing for, and participating in, jury trials.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local court rules.
  • Ability to use Excel, Word, case management systems, SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • Experience drafting discovery.
  • Experience creating case summaries.
  • Experience with some motion practice.
  • Ability to propose case specific discovery strategies.
