About The Position

Located at bp's Whiting Refinery in Whiting, Indiana, the Condition Monitoring Technician is a member of the Rotating Equipment Engineering Group which consists of Rotating Equipment Engineers, Condition Monitoring Technicians and the Rotating Equipment Engineering Superintendent. The team is accountable for the Life Cycle Management of the refinery’s rotating equipment, and jointly responsible, with the Rotating Equipment Engineer, for the development of Life Cycle Management Plans and reliability improvement strategies for assigned rotating equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery.

Nice To Haves

  • Machinist and/or Instrument tech experience preferred along with machinery monitoring experience.
  • Vibration Institute Technician Level I, Level II or other accredited vibration certifications (ISO 18436-1).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day health monitoring on assigned rotating equipment; work with Engineering, Operations and Maintenance to resolve identified issues.
  • Collection, maintenance, and analysis of equipment health monitoring information on assigned rotating equipment.
  • Maintenance of all vibration monitoring hardware and computer software on assigned rotating equipment.
  • Analyze vibration, bearing temperature and other rotating equipment health data and recommend solutions to resolve availability issues.
  • Ensure integrity of vibration trips to allow for safe operation.
  • Provide technical support and problem solving skills to address rotating equipment availability issues.
  • Shares, consults with other REG engineering personnel concerning best practices, troubleshooting, recommendations and QC.
  • Work jointly with Asset, Maintenance and Availability teams to improve equipment availability.
  • Interact with operations, maintenance, turnarounds and inspection personnel to resolve availability issues.
  • Support mechanical integrity activities for rotating equipment and compliance targets across the asset areas.
  • Conduct routine equipment health audits on assigned rotating equipment and drive resolution on identified deficiencies.
  • Jointly responsible, with the Rotating Equipment Engineer for the development of reliability improvement strategies for assigned rotating equipment.
  • Troubleshooting cylinder lubrication systems on critical reciprocating compressors.
  • Balancing of rotating equipment as needed.
  • Support and drive continual refreshing of technology to ensure monitoring equipment remains consistent with Industry standards, BP corporate specifications and Industry Best Practices.
  • Work with the Rotating Equipment Engineering Superintendent to pursue capital as needed for group equipment.
  • Performs facility lubrication oil testing program tasks per “WBU Rotating Equipment Lubrication Management Program”
  • Jointly responsible, with the Rotating Equipment Engineer, for the development of Life Cycle Management Plans for assigned rotating equipment.
