About The Position

This role involves performing a variety of skilled and unskilled labor tasks on construction sites, with a focus on concrete work. The Concrete Laborer will be responsible for preparing, placing, and finishing concrete, as well as operating various equipment and ensuring site safety. The position requires professional representation of GH Phipps and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Work with compressed air equipment, i.e., jack hammer or chipping hammer.
  • Function as signal person in all construction work.
  • Clear, excavate, fill, backfill, grade/landscape and perform skilled and unskilled labor connected therewith.
  • Assist in the wrecking or dismantling of buildings and other structures.
  • Perform cleanup procedures, including removal of debris.
  • Perform form watchman duties, including flagman, garbage and debris handler, dump-man, fire-watch and tending to heaters and pumps.
  • Prepare, handle, and convey materials whether by hand or by any other process.
  • Perform general cleanup, including sweeping, cleaning and wiping of construction site or facility, washroom, equipment and furnishings, removal and loading of all debris.
  • Perform aging and curing of concrete, mortar or other materials.
  • Build planking or installation and removal of all staging, swinging and hanging scaffolds including maintenance thereof. Dismantle scaffolds as well as prepare for foundations or mud sills for scaffolds and maintain the same.
  • Mix, handle, convey, pour, vibrate, gunite and otherwise place concrete or aggregates, whether done by hand or any other process.
  • Wreck, strip, dismantle and handle concrete forms and false work.
  • Operate concrete conveyors, motorized wheelbarrows or buggies or machines of similar character.
  • Hook on, signal, dump and unhook the bucket when concrete or aggregates are conveyed.
  • Place concrete or aggregates, whether poured, pumped, gunited or placed by any other process.
  • Assemble and uncouple all connections and parts of or to equipment used in mixing or conveying concrete, aggregates or mortar and clean such equipment, parts and/or connections.
  • Perform all vibrating, grinding, spreading, flowing, puddling, leveling and strike-off of concrete or aggregates by floating, rodding or screeding by hand or mechanical means prior to finishing.
  • Perform green cutting of concrete or aggregates in any form by hand, mechanical means, grindstones or air or water.
  • Fill and patch voids, crevices, etc. to correct defects in concrete.
  • Move, clean, oil, and carry all forms to the next point of erection.
  • Snap wall ties and remove tie rods; handle, place and operate the nozzle, hoses and pots or hoppers on sandblasting or other abrasive cleaning.
  • Operate equipment such as skid loaders, forklifts and winches.
  • Use safety equipment as prescribed by company to ensure safety on jobsite.
  • Complete adherence to alcohol and drug use policies set by company as a safety sensitive position.
  • In-person, predictable attendance at assigned location.
