About The Position

The position of Concrete Laborer involves performing a variety of duties within a plant environment. Key tasks include stripping and cleaning concrete forms using various tools, preparing forms, and handling stressing cables. The role also involves pouring, shoveling, vibrating, and finishing concrete, while maintaining good housekeeping and adhering to safety regulations. Laborers will remove forms from cured piling, cut stressing cables, and operate hoists and gantry cranes to move beams. Regular attendance at safety meetings is required to ensure a safe working environment. The role also encompasses general physical work tasks at the job site and other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform a wide range of concrete labor duties including stripping, cleaning, preparing forms, handling stressing cables, pouring, shoveling, vibrating, and finishing concrete.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools (hammer, scraper, broom) and specialized equipment (oxyacetylene torch, hoist, gantry crane).
  • Ability to maintain good housekeeping and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Ability to attend safety meetings.
  • Capability to perform basic physical work tasks at the work site.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Possession of specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in inclement weather, as well as wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Ability to work safely around moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • Commitment to wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, reflective vests, and steel toe boots.

Responsibilities

  • Strips and cleans concrete forms, using hammer, scraper, and broom and sprays form with oil to prevent adhesion of concrete.
  • Preparing forms.
  • Pushes stressing cables through form, threads ends through guide holes in end plates and securing the ends of the strands with chucks.
  • Pours concrete.
  • Shovels, vibrates, and finishes and maintains good housekeeping and safety regulations.
  • Removes forms from cured piling, using hand tools, and cuts protruding end of stressing cable, using oxyacetylene torch.
  • Lifts beam and moves hoist to yarding area via gantry crane.
  • Attends all safety meetings to gain a broader understanding of safety issues that will assist in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Perform basic physical work tasks at work site.
  • All other duties or special projects as assigned by management.
