About The Position

This position is accountable for ensuring Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) and related mixture production, contractor quality control activities, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) quality assurance activities, and mixture characteristics comply with contract requirements on state and local agency projects. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Concrete Inspection Technician. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR Six years of engineering experience.
  • Active Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Level I Technician Certification.
  • Requires IDOT QC/QA PCC Level II Technician Certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires Districtwide travel and some statewide travel, which may include occasional overnight stays.
  • Requires overtime which may include mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requires ability to perform field work in a variety of weather conditions on construction projects, roadways open to traffic, and production facilities.
  • Requires ability to lift 50 lbs. and traverse stairs, ladders and rough terrain.
  • Requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors plant operation, producer quality control activities, and mixture quality.
  • Performs plant, delivery truck, and laboratory inspections.
  • Identifies non-compliant mixtures prior to their incorporation into a project.
  • Monitors project site mixture testing activities and performs plant or project site investigative sampling and testing.
  • Reviews test results and data entry.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
