Concrete Finisher/Skilled Labourer
About The Position
North America Construction (1993) Ltd. (NAC) is a company specializing in water and wastewater construction across Canada. With a team of nearly 500 professionals, NAC handles projects from conceptualization to delivery, including civil, structural, process mechanical, building mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work. The company prioritizes quality and safety in projects ranging from water filtration to wastewater treatment and dams. The Concrete Finisher position reports to the Civil Superintendent and is responsible for various concrete-related tasks such as waterproofing, grouting, finishing, cutting, coring, floor pouring, stain removal, curing, floor leveling, high tolerance finishing, and slab installation. This role requires knowledge of the heavy construction industry, including its practices, procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, quality control, and safety measures, with a specific focus on concrete finishing for heavy construction products.
Requirements
- Must have 3-5 years of experience in 'dry concrete finishing' in the heavy construction industry, including; grinding and chipping concrete, patching and repairing cone holes and sack rubbing walls
- Knowledge of grout mixes/mixing for colour match
- Must be 'fit tested' with a respiratory-mask
- Concrete pouring & wet finishing experience
- Knowledge of safe operation of tools and equipment, and workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
- Strong communication and positive teamwork skills
- Valid WHMIS, Elevated/Aerial Work Platform and Working at Heights certificates are required
Nice To Haves
- Experience on 7 meter high walls is an asset
Responsibilities
- Build, layout and execute forms as required, according to specifications with the ability to make calculations depending on grades
- Dry concrete finishing: concrete chipping and patching, grinding concrete and sack rubbing walls to receive paint
- Apply grout mixing/mixes and possess sound knowledge of grouting materials
- Waterproofing, grouting, finishing, cutting & coring concrete
- Floor pouring, stain removal and cleaning
- Curing concrete, floor leveling, finishing, high tolerance finishing and slab installation
- Observe and comply with all health and safety regulations and ensures any apprentices under your direction comply
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment
- Receive and follow directions
- Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System
- Construct and/or assemble and dismantle scaffolding as required
- Handle and transport job materials to the work area as needed
- Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations
