The Senior Concept Designer drives innovation and influences the invention of new experiences and has an excellent ability to capture the story and essence of the attraction/experience in inspirational visuals. Working from the standpoint of story and guest experience, this position partners in conceiving guest experiences and produces artwork at various levels of finish such as storyboards, presentational-level art, and aspirational illustration in whichever medium best conveys the story and essence of the experience. This role is most highly engaged during the Blue Sky to Concept Development phases. The Concept Designer will report to the Concept Design Studio Manager This is a full-time/project hire role with no guarantee of permanent placement position.

Requirements

  • 5 years of related experience in theme park related field such as themed architecture and immersive spaces, interiors, interactive and attraction design.
  • Verbal and visual skills to facilitate and enhance idea development in project design and brainstorming sessions.
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with the creative design process and deliverables expectations.
  • Solid design/illustration skills in multiple formats including character sketches, story-boards, color illustrations, POVs, presentation art, marketing materials, and aspirational pieces.
  • Experience with visualization platforms including, but not limited to: 2D and 3-D modeling and dimensional design.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to create immersive guest experiences supported by practical experience developing three-dimensional spaces.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the creative design process and deliverables expectations.
  • Knowledge of design supported by extensive practical experience developing three-dimensional spaces.
  • Experience producing illustrative work for presentations, marketing efforts, and design packages that facilitate the design/build efforts.
  • Work independently and take initiative with minimal direction.
  • Ability to mentor Interns and illustrators.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Theatre Design, Film, Visual Effects, Fine Art, Illustration or Industrial Design a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Influence and drive ideation and invention of new experiences.
  • Create, develop, and produce high quality illustrative materials to demonstrate and illuminate the look, mood, size, line, and impact of the conceptual vision.
  • Visualize, create, and develop the design vocabulary (mood, character, feel, time, place, look, detail, organization of the physical space, etc.) from the story/concept point-of-view for the attraction/experience through the production of visual mediums including storyboards, character renderings, POV’s, vehicle designs, etc.
  • Collaborates with Creative Directors, Writers, and Designers to interpret oral and written concepts, explore alternatives, and evolve the design intent of the assignment.
  • May collaborate across disciplines and studios to achieve vision.
  • Perform and use visual research.
  • Collaborate to modify and clarify design and artwork.
  • Produce content for presentational packages.
  • Develop illustrations that inform styling, color and finish, and illustrations to support completion of Design Development and bid packages as requested.
  • Define the look and feel of the concept/idea by creating original design materials such as sketch studies, POVs, storyboards, character art, and conceptual ride and floor plan layouts, using various mediums including 2D digital and traditional illustrations and paintings, and 3D digital design/sculpting, etc.
  • Provide design input on Graphic Design, Set Decoration, Scenic Art, Special FX, etc.
