About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking undergraduate students for its Computing Fall Internship Program, taking place from September 1, 2026, through December 18, 2026. Interns will engage in practical research to further their educational goals and provide technical and/or research support to projects in areas such as computational science, cyber defense, computer science, numerical methods, mathematics, and other related STEM disciplines. This position may offer a hybrid schedule, allowing for a blend of in-person and virtual presence, with potential flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
  • Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, or other related STEM fields.
  • Proven ability to adapt and thrive in challenging situations, demonstrating resilience and problem-solving skills to achieve goals while overcoming setbacks.
  • Ability to apply basic computational science and/or mathematical principles to solve technical problems.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
  • Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Age 18 or older at the start of the internship.
  • Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and/or research support to projects in the areas of computational science, cyber defense, computer science, numerical methods, mathematics, and other related STEM disciplines, working with scientists, engineers, and technical staff members.
  • Participate in research in assigned area under close supervision.
  • Gather and analyze data and information in support of scientific research.
  • Participate in research planning and evaluation discussions.
  • Attend relevant seminars (at least one per week).
  • Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
