About The Position

This is an entry-level internship opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited community college or university in Fall of 2027 who are interested in gaining foundational work experience in areas such as computational science, cyber defense, computer science, numerical methods, mathematics, and other related STEM disciplines. No prior professional experience is required. The program offers valuable hands-on experience in practical research to support their educational and career goals. Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
  • In good academic standing, pursuing an undergraduate degree in Fall 2027 at an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, or other related STEM fields.
  • Proven ability to adapt and thrive in challenging situations, demonstrating resilience and problem-solving skills to achieve goals while overcoming setbacks.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Age 18 or older at the start of the internship.
  • Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Nice To Haves

  • Participated in a STEM related club for at least 1 academic school year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and/or research support to projects in areas such as computational science, cyber defense, computer science, numerical methods, mathematics, and other related STEM disciplines, working with scientists, engineers, and technical staff members.
  • Develop skills with tools such as Git, Bash, Python, and others relevant to the research area.
  • Gather and analyze data and information in support of scientific research.
  • Participate in research planning and evaluation discussion.
  • Attend relevant seminars (at least one per week).
  • Participate in end-of-summer poster presentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
