About The Position

Rivet Operations Company (“Rivet”) has an opening for a Computing Specialist to join our rapidly growing team in the Arlington, VA area. Rivet is an exceptional industry partner to the Department of Defense (DoD) and a leader in physical and cyber security, IT management, logistics, supply chain management, process improvement and development. The Computing Specialist (High Performance Computing) provides technical and operational support to Office of Naval Research (ONR) Program Officers overseeing the Navy’s High Performance Computing (HPC) Program. The specialist plays a critical role in enabling secure and efficient access to Navy HPC resources while supporting a large and diverse community of scientific and engineering users.

Requirements

  • High school diploma from an accredited institution.
  • At least six (6) years of experience providing similar IT, computing, or technical support to government, research, or scientific organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or administering computing systems for large user communities.
  • Familiarity with tracking and managing system usage metrics such as CPU hours or comparable computing resources.
  • Ability to work effectively with scientists, engineers, program managers, and security personnel in a mission-critical environment.
  • Strong verbal communication to effectively express concepts, plans, and proposals.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Initiative-taker requiring minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook).
  • Position requires applicant to be a US Citizen and obtain and maintain the required security clearance for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Support Program Officers who lead and manage the Navy’s High Performance Computing Program.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for approximately 500 scientists and engineers utilizing Navy HPC systems.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain user accounts for HPC system access.
  • Track and monitor usage of Central Processing Unit (CPU) hours across HPC platforms.
  • Allocate CPU hours in alignment with Navy Science and Technology priorities and leadership guidance.
  • Coordinate with security offices to verify that all users possess required security clearances and credentials, including access to classified computational resources.
  • Ensure compliance with security, access control, and usage policies governing both unclassified and classified HPC environments.
  • Maintain accurate records of system usage, allocations, and user authorization status.
