About The Position

Mill is a waste prevention technology company focused on eliminating waste, particularly food waste. They develop smart systems for homes, businesses, and municipalities to transform food scraps into valuable resources like chicken feed. Mill has deployed thousands of residential food recyclers and is launching Mill Commercial, an end-to-end solution for commercial food waste management. The company is passionate about creating user-friendly, well-designed technologies that keep food within the food system and out of landfills.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing (or recently completed) a Degree in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Hands-on experience with a deep-learning framework.
  • Solid understanding of modern computer vision concepts (object detection, segmentation, representation learning, etc.).
  • Experience training and evaluating models on real datasets.
  • Comfort with the complexities of real-world data.
  • Genuine interest in translating research skills into practical, shipped systems.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. (no employment visa sponsorship).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MLOps / experiment-tracking tooling (ClearML, Weights & Biases, MLflow).
  • Experience with dataset-management and curation tooling (FiftyOne / Voxel51, CVAT, Roboflow).
  • Familiarity with data/training pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), and Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Publications or open-source contributions in Computer Vision/Machine Learning.

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve computer vision models (detection, segmentation, classification) for material and food recognition.
  • Curate, explore, and quality-assure large image/video datasets, identifying failure modes, duplicates, and labeling issues.
  • Develop and scale training pipelines and experiment-tracking/reporting tools to ensure reproducibility and easy comparison of results.
  • Design and conduct rigorous model evaluations and contribute to progress measurement.
  • Collaborate with engineering and data teams to transition promising results into production.
  • Document methods and share findings with the team.
