About The Position

This recruitment is open and promotional, meaning that all are welcome to apply and employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams. There is currently one opening located in the Information Technology Department (8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year). Under direction of the Director of Information Technology, provide the highest level of support for the assigned Student Information Systems (SIS), develop or maintain data interfaces, develop customer reports, extract and manipulate statistical data from SIS, create technical and end-user documentation, and provide training on both software and related procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Three years of experience performing duties of increasing responsibilities in a computing environment.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., SQL, VBScript, Windows Powershell).
  • Knowledge of Student Information Systems (e.g., Aeries, Synergy, Destiny, Illuminate, Naviance) operations, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of complex Microsoft T-SQL scripting.
  • Knowledge of SQL database management, security schema design.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of business process analysis and design.
  • Knowledge of elements of system and procedure analysis.
  • Knowledge of scripting and macro languages used on computers.
  • Knowledge of database functions and structure.
  • Knowledge of principles of training/supporting technology users.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal relationship techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles of providing work direction and guidance to others.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures of operating mainframe and personal computers and peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to analyze complex user problems, evaluate alternatives and devise efficient cost-effective, user-friendly solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide highest level of support for assigned SIS, including both troubleshooting and enhancing functionality.
  • Develop, test and implement complex custom solutions using standard scripting languages on desktop and server computers.
  • Handle common requests such as automating complex data imports and exports, including creating custom reports.
  • Create or maintain systems for synchronizing data between the SIS and various other systems (e.g., Active Directory, library systems, and Special Education systems).
  • Use Structured Query Language (SQL), macros, embedded languages, scripting, or complex formulae in commercial software packages to create custom solutions.
  • Create and manage user experience and user interface designs for interactive data dashboard systems.
  • Make decisions on routine security settings in assigned systems.
  • Put those changes into effect via SQL security, Active Directory security groups, and/or application level settings.
  • Extract, submit and certify data to state or federal agencies (e.g., CALPADS, Civil Rights Data Collection and Perkins Grant Management System).
  • Work collaboratively with vendors or other agencies to resolve SIS or related problems.
  • Work collaboratively with outside agencies to share SIS data securely.
  • Ensure all data sharing complies with data privacy laws.
  • Train and provide work direction to staff as required.
  • Serve as a technical resource to others regarding the more complex and difficult applications issues.
  • Participate in the review and definition of assigned functional areas, processes and procedures regarding requirements, organization and flow of data, methods and forms.
  • Provide assistance and support the more common personal computer software applications.
  • Provide training to customers in the use of various Report Writer programs, software and products.
  • Create technical and write and maintain end-user documentation. The form of this documentation may be written, audio, video or screencast.
  • Install software packages; data conversion; package maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot system problems, identify, evaluate and resolve program problems and data problems.
  • Consult with users to provide support and to determine systems and software requirements and objectives.
  • Assist users with understanding SIS procedures and creating custom queries.
  • Communicate changes in assigned configuration to customers and related support activities.
  • Provide recommendations as appropriate for changes or improvements to assigned environments.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
