About The Position

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve the peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The Information Technology Bureau (ITB) is to provide all members of the New York City Police Department with the most technological advancement available in order to enhance operational performance and promote personal safety. A computer technician installs, maintains, and repairs computer systems and networks. They diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, ensuring optimal performance and security. This includes setting up new equipment, troubleshooting problems, and providing technical support to users either in person, by phone, or remotely. Computer service technicians will also be creating and maintaining records of hardware and software configurations, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions.

Requirements

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s Department of Education or recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory, full-time experience in computer maintenance and repair; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s Department of Education or recognized accrediting organization and graduation from a certified technical training program in computer maintenance and repair; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to the above.
  • Must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York.
  • Must maintain a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience of the type described in "1" above may be substituted for high school on the basis of one year of experience for each year of high school.
  • If you have moving violations, license suspensions or an accident record, you may be disqualified.

Responsibilities
