About The Position

ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking a Computer Scientist to join their Tower Data Link System (TDLS) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is a full-time, on-site position at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) in Oklahoma City, OK. The TDLS program is a National Airspace System automation system that delivers digital pre-departure clearances (PDCs) and other terminal services directly to flight deck crews and airline dispatch computers, eliminating the need for lengthy, repetitive voice read-backs over congested radio frequencies. All candidates must be US Citizens, have resided in the US for three consecutive years, and possess a RealID Driver’s License/ID or current US Passport to pass a Federal Background Investigation and obtain an FAA Public Trust security clearance. The candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) in Oklahoma City, OK.

Requirements

  • Proficient in programming languages and scripts used in model and tool development (C, C++, Python).
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team, in an agile environment.
  • Ability to research, troubleshoot and problem solve quickly.
  • Ability to learn on the job/willing to self-teach.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with high organization.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related IT fields, with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science may be substituted in lieu of the computer science degree, depending on other qualifications and experience.
  • All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate at the time of application.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • Possess a RealID Driver’s License/ID or current US Passport.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NAS facilities, systems, and equipment is desired.
  • Working knowledge of high-level languages (Python, Perl, Ruby).
  • Experience with shell scripting (sh, bash).
  • Understanding of the importance of testing throughout all phases of the software development process.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, test, evaluate, and maintain integrated computer hardware and software systems.
  • Manage computer systems architecture, integration, software programming, development, review, audit, testing, configuration management, requirements, and changes.
  • Provide support using programming languages such as JAVA, C, C++, and Python.
  • Offer scripting support with languages like Perl and Shell.
  • Execute software projects with knowledge of the full software design lifecycle from requirements gathering to production.
  • Develop software that interfaces with external devices.
  • Utilize test equipment including logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition tools.
  • Debug complex systems and conduct reviews, audits, and testing.
