About The Position

The Computer Operator IV position is accountable to the Work Group Lead (WGL) and the Mission Support Services (MSS) Manager for the overall support of in-scope work in WBS 130. The Computer Operator is responsible for pre-mission buildup, operations and post flight processing of data collected by the Telemetry and Radar Acquisition Processing System (TRAPS) in support of NASA AFRC's Dryden Aeronautical Test Range. In detail, this involves implementing, testing, and documenting customer requirements using the Interactive Analysis and Display System (IADS) software and other in-house specialized software. Specifically, operations involve configuring a real-time system using a checklist to ensure it is ready to receive and process data and monitoring the system during data collection. Post Flight processing involves the reformatting or recapturing, transferring and storage of collected data. The Computer Operator will be required to perform periodic and corrective maintenance on these highly specialized computer systems to ensure the system availability. The Computer Operator will also participate on system developing, deployment, application testing, and system configuration changes during upgrades or enhancements.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology or a related field. Completion of formal training in an accredited commercial or military electronics school may be considered in lieu of an associate degree.
  • At least 3 years of related experience.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team.
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues and devise solutions.
  • Observational skills to notice potential problems during preventative maintenance tasks.
  • written communication skills to keep accurate reports.
  • Interpersonal and oral communication skills to interact and collaborate with the team and the customers.
  • Ability to safely utilize multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other basic electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to fabricate and test coaxial and ethernet cables.
  • Good understanding of Information Technology systems, and applications such Microsoft Office Suite and Visio.
  • Experienced with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Ability to: Work under the pressure of a real-time mission environment.
  • Configure and operate highly specialized telemetry processing systems with the ability to recognize and correctly resolve problems in time critical situations.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written form; apply the principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data and establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Establish and maintain successful working relationships.
  • Interact effectively with system users.
  • Analyze data and resolve problems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment; meet deadlines; use a computer to input and retrieve information and data; and perform work in an ISO-compliant/certified environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support telemetry and data processing system operations as required.
  • Perform preventive/corrective maintenance on Information Systems (IT). Assist usually under the direction of higher-level personnel.
  • Interface with customers and other operations personnel in a professional manner.
  • Utilize PC based peripheral systems in daily performance of job requirements.
  • Maintain procedures, records, logs, mission/system databases, and adhere to configuration control processes.
  • Assist in the development and checkout of applications software and acceptance testing of new system releases.
  • Develop, test, validate, and verify application software to meet specific project configuration requirement, set-up, and/or compilation of processing and display software systems requirements.
  • Perform beta testing on new software or versions of old software.
  • Schedule, test, validate and verify new Mission Builds as well as Mission Control Center workstation software releases.
  • Maintain, and provide to NASA upon request, documentation on all projects and systems supported to include a complete audit trail for every change made to the application or system software.
  • Perform other related duties as required by management to include supporting other work areas during surges. This may include cross training into other function areas to meet overall contract performance objectives.
  • Perform housekeeping of the work area and equipment according to specified standards.
  • Operate government vehicles, troubleshoot computer systems, networks, switches, and routers.
  • Perform display buildup using IADS software, compile real-time source code and utilize command lines tools to interact with Linux and Windows systems.
