About The Position

Koniag IT Systems, LLC (KITS), a Koniag Government Services (KGS) company, is seeking a Computer Operator I to support KITS and our government customer in Baltimore, MD. The role involves monitoring and controlling operational systems, operating and troubleshooting mail sorting machines and other sorting equipment, and maintaining equipment inventories. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of computer hardware and software systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently in high-pressure situations. The Computer Operator I will be responsible for setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting operational issues to ensure productivity is not impeded.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year of personal computer experience.
  • Knowledge of modern operating systems, networking, and MS Office software.
  • Knowledge of clerical and reporting skills.
  • Excellent attention-to-detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform accurately, assigned routine operations on various data processing equipment.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to listen effectively and express thoughts and opinions clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work well both alone and in highly structured team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications capabilities with good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to stand for significant periods of time.
  • Candidates must be able to work Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm daily. (Hours may vary based on workload and candidates must be flexible)
  • Candidates who hold an active public trust government clearance are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates who are willing to undergo a background investigation to receive a government clearance will be strongly considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Some higher education experience or successful completion of related programs in data processing and computer operations.
  • Two years of experience in business mailroom, print operations, and/or mail sorting experience.
  • Experience with using loading and maneuvering equipment safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares equipment for operations by accessing software in computer.
  • Uses computer terminals to enter commands, activate equipment controls, and adjust settings to produce quality deliverables daily.
  • Ensures efficient production workflow by attentively following procedural instructions and performing duties immediately.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots issues regarding production processes, deadlines, and data transmissions across a multiplatform environment.
  • Responds to program error messages by finding and correcting problems.
  • Maintains incident logs for all monitored systems.
  • Assists with inventory control practices including identifying and locating the right products during the delivery process and daily workload; properly storing necessary inventory in designated areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
