About The Position

Mango is seeking an Computational Imaging Engineer to take technical ownership of our optical systems and imaging pipeline, working closely with the software, microbiology, and hardware teams. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role at the intersection of optics, imaging hardware, and computer vision, with significant opportunities for technical leadership as the company scales. The ideal candidate has strong industry experience applying convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to image processing problems—preferably in domains like microscopy, biomedical imaging, or other high-complexity visual data systems. Additionally, candidates should have hands-on exposure to optical hardware, such as hyperspectral imaging systems, microscopy platforms, or custom imaging setups. Prior work with lensless or computational imaging systems is especially valuable.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of industry experience applying CNNs to image processing tasks
  • Experience working with microscopy, medical imaging, or other high-resolution imaging systems
  • Exposure to optical systems design (e.g., hyperspectral, lensless, or computational imaging)
  • Fluency in Python and PyTorch
  • Strong cross-disciplinary communication skills; ability to work closely with microbiologists and engineers
  • Passion for solving real-world problems with end-to-end system thinking
  • Prior work in a fast-paced startup or product-focused R&D environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with inverse problems or physics-informed machine learning
  • Familiarity with hardware/software integration

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve Mango’s imaging stack, including imaging hardware and computational reconstruction
  • Develop and deploy CNN-based models for image enhancement, reconstruction, and classification
  • Collaborate with software, microbiology, and hardware teams to design imaging workflows that support experimental needs
  • Design, prototype, and validate custom imaging systems suited to our platform (including lensless imaging)
  • Guide decisions on image quality, signal processing, and hardware/software co-design
  • Establish best practices for reproducibility, quality control, and calibration in imaging
