About The Position

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is seeking a Computational Designer to join their inter-disciplinary computational design team. This team comprises professionals with diverse backgrounds including engineering, physics, visual effects, 3D animation, simulation analysis, software development, and manufacturing technologies. They tackle a wide array of design challenges by developing innovative geometry and reusable procedures to create reliable, high-performance, cost-effective, and manufacturable components. As a small team, there are numerous opportunities for significant contributions. The computational designer will collaborate with subject matter experts to understand design problems, explore potential geometric solutions, review past efforts, and consider performance requirements to guide the design process. Utilizing creativity and expertise, alongside expert guidance, the role aims to advance the state of computational design and bring design solutions to fruition. The Computational Designer Engineer will be responsible for creating novel geometry and reusable procedures that result in reliable, high-performance, cost-effective, and manufacturable components for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

Requirements

  • Expertise in procedural geometry modeling with SideFX Houdini (experience with other procedural modeling tools will be considered).
  • Strong understanding of geometry and 3D modeling fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting or programming language (Python or C++ preferred but other languages will be considered).
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college in 3D animation, visual effects, computer science, engineering, industrial design, physics, or related degree or relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing technologies and processes (especially for additive manufacturing)

Responsibilities

  • Work with subject matter experts to understand and solve design problems across a broad range of subjects
  • Implement novel computational design processes that generate designs for future Lockheed Martin products
  • Conduct research to enable and support projects through computational design technologies
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure all design requirements are met
  • Communicate concepts and progress clearly to stakeholders
