Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce or Business Administration (preferably with a major in Accounting or Finance)
  • CPA designation obtained
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant public accounting experience
  • Understanding of business, accounting, management, and prospecting principles

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with accounting and tax software Caseware, Taxprep, Sage 50, Acomba etc. is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Perform compilation and review engagements primarily; provide bookkeeping and tax services.
  • Prepare files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses; manage multiple files simultaneously and conduct inventory counts.
  • Perform walkthrough tests of debtors, creditors, fixed asset acquisitions, disposals, and payroll with clients.
  • Summarize the client's current financial position by gathering information and preparing the balance sheet, income statement, and other relevant reports.
  • Evaluate and ensure the appropriateness of supporting evidence for expenses, revenues, fixed asset acquisitions, creditors, debtors, and prepaid expenses.
  • Review and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Prepare accounting plans and prepare entries to be included in the accounts.
  • Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries, and presentations outlining findings, facts, and highlights related to the mandate.
  • Establish effective working relationships with clients; coach and guide less experienced team members.
  • Participate in prospecting projects and identify new business opportunities.
  • Be willing to travel, as needed.
