About The Position

Road & Rail Services is hiring an experienced Composite Locomotive Repairman to travel to railroad facilities and project locations to perform locomotive inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair work. This is not an entry-level position. Prior hands-on locomotive repair experience is required. We are looking for a skilled railroad mechanical professional who already understands locomotive systems and can confidently diagnose problems, determine appropriate repairs, and complete mechanical work safely and efficiently. Candidates with direct experience as a Locomotive Mechanic, Locomotive Repairman, Diesel Locomotive Mechanic, Railroad Mechanical Technician, or similar locomotive maintenance position are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualified skilled professionals who are willing to relocate to Mulberry, Florida may be eligible for a relocation package. Relocation assistance is based on experience, qualifications, and company requirements.

Requirements

  • Previous hands-on locomotive maintenance and repair experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of locomotive mechanical systems
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel-powered locomotive equipment
  • Mechanical diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics
  • Experience with industrial tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to independently identify mechanical problems and complete repairs
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices in a railroad or heavy industrial environment
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel extensively based on project and customer requirements
  • Willingness to relocate to Mulberry, FL, if required for the position

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting locomotives and identifying mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and operational issues
  • Diagnosing locomotive failures and determining appropriate repairs
  • Performing preventive maintenance and scheduled locomotive inspections
  • Repairing and replacing locomotive components and assemblies
  • Troubleshooting diesel engines, air systems, brake systems, electrical components, and related equipment
  • Performing welding, cutting, fabrication, and other mechanical repairs
  • Reading and interpreting schematics, diagrams, technical manuals, and repair instructions
  • Using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and specialized railroad equipment
  • Completing required maintenance, inspection, and repair documentation
  • Verifying repairs before equipment is returned to service
  • Following company, customer, railroad, and applicable FRA safety requirements
  • Maintaining a safe and organized work area at each project location
