About The Position

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) has developed the Northrop Grumman – Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for SkillBridge. During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. The Goals of the program are to provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. Interns will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into NGC. The Objectives are that Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly-trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission “Defining Possible” on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities. The Outcome is to offer transitioning service member a rewarding opportunity to join the Northrop Grumman team. Our Aeronautics Systems sector is currently seeking a Composite Bonder level 2/3 to join our operations team, located in Clearfield, UT, working on a variety of bonds of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, components, equipment or structures into semi-finished or finished products. Only external candidates and NG employees who are not currently aircraft structures mechanics at the Clearfield site will be considered under this requisition.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED with at least 2-years of relatable composite fabrication or bonding experience in manufacturing/production environment (for level 2)
High School diploma or GED with at least 4 years of relatable composite fabrication or bonding experience in manufacturing/production environment (for level 3)
DoD Secret Security Clearance and special program access required to start, but not required to apply
Ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 50 pounds, working overhead or at heights, and accessing small, confined spaces
Must be able to access small, confined spaces and work in an enclosed environment.
Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends
Must successfully complete and pass the “ASTAR New Hire Training / Compliance” within a reasonable time period, as defined by the company to meet its business need.
Must be able to pass a New Hire Physical Exam, and able to obtain and maintain a respirator clearance and compliance with all respirator fitting requirements
Has served at least 180 days on active duty (SkillBridge Eligibility)
Is within 12 months of separation or retirement (SkillBridge Eligibility)
Will receive an honorable discharge (SkillBridge Eligibility)
Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS (SkillBridge Eligibility)
Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months (SkillBridge Eligibility)
Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship (SkillBridge Eligibility)

Nice To Haves

Completion of AFAB Certification (115- Structures, 120- Composites, 110- Blueprints, 130- Ethics)
Experience with hydraulic parts, aircraft fabrication, assemblies, components, and systems in an aerospace, automotive, military, manufacturing and/or maintenance environment
Active DoD Secret Clearance with a background investigation completed within the last six years with the ability to obtain program access.
Experience with structural subassemblies such as rudders, flaps and stabilizers.

Responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints.
Lay out articles, cuts parts or materials to size and apply liquid or solid bonding agents.
Understanding of ply orientations and vacuum bagging processes
Operates autoclave, hydraulic presses and ovens to complete bonding cycle.
Control conditions of heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to the specifications for the materials and the bonding agent being used.
Sand, burs and smooth over areas, apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.
Monitor and verify quality of finished product.
Complete repairs on composite, metal or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions.
Verifies quality of finished product.
