About The Position

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc., a leading defense technology company, is seeking Composite Assemblers (I-III) for their Unmanned Aerial Systems division. This role involves trimming, grinding, drilling, and sanding composite parts to precise dimensions, as well as mixing and applying adhesives.   • Ability to differentiate between various types of composite materials (Assembler I).
  • Ability to operate equipment used within department (Assembler I).
  • Ability to read and follow processes and procedures (Assembler I).
  • Ability to use powered and non-powered tools to perform cutting, grinding, drilling of composite materials (Assembler I).
  • Ability to understand and follow Kratos' Quality System (Assembler I).
  • Adherence to all Safety procedures (Assembler I).
  • Must be able to perform basic lamination repairs (Assembler II).
  • Must be able to use precision measuring devices (Assembler II & III).
  • Intermediate level of Math Skills (Assembler II).
  • Intermediate level of Documentation skills (Assembler II).
  • Intermediate level of Computer Skills (Assembler II).
  • Intermediate level of Materials Knowledge (Assembler II).
  • Intermediate ability to operate equipment used within department (Assembler II).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow processes and procedures (Assembler II).
  • Consistently perform to established production standards (Assembler II).
  • Advanced level of Math Skills (Assembler III).
  • Advanced level of Documentation skills (Assembler III).
  • Advanced level of Computer Skills (Assembler III).
  • Advanced level of Materials Knowledge (Assembler III).
  • Advanced ability to operate equipment used within department (Assembler III).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow processes and procedures (Assembler III).
  • Normally exceeds standard production hours (Assembler III).
  • High school education or equivalent (All Levels).
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing production (Assembler I).
  • 2-3 years hands-on experience in composite manufacturing (Assembler II).
  • 5+ years hands-on experience in composite manufacturing (Assembler III).
  • Experience with Vacuum Bagging, and various forms of Lamination repair (Assembler III).

Nice To Haves

  • Precise measuring experience is a plus (Assembler I).
  • Composites background is a plus (All Levels).
  • Experience with aircraft fuselage a definite plus (All Levels).

Responsibilities

  • Trims, grinds, drills and sands composite parts to precise dimensions.
  • Mixes and applies appropriate adhesives to bond parts.
  • Performs a variety of tasks requiring knowledge of fabrication techniques, materials, tools and equipment.
  • Follows FOD (foreign object prevention) practices.
  • Interprets and follows manufacturing orders.
  • Operates shop related machinery including ovens, pneumatic tools, common hand tools and scales.
  • Handles, applies, stores and disposes of composite materials, adhesives, sealants, resins and solvents.
  • Supports and exhibits the focus of zero defects as well as "right-the-first-time" approach.
  • Inspects finished products for conformance to specifications.
  • May work from verbal instructions.
  • Complies with established safety directives.
  • Maintains a clean work area and ensures strict adherence to the 5S Standards.
  • Complies with established QMS procedures.
  • Prepares, abrades and bonds composite and metal-to-composite assemblies.
  • Rivets both solid and blind rivets.
  • May install electronic components.
  • Performs hand layout of features for trimming and drilling in parts or assemblies.
  • Meets or exceeds productivity and quality standards.
  • Capable of performing wet layups (Assembler II & III).
  • Trains and mentors new employees in proper trimming, abrading and bonding techniques (Assembler II & III).
  • Ability to work at any work center in the department (Assembler III).
  • May fabricate prototype parts from sketches (Assembler III).
  • Must be able to perform basic lamination repairs (Assembler II & III).
  • Handle a great deal of repair work (Assembler III).
  • Be proactive to look for process improvement ideas (Assembler III).
