About The Position

The Component Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and continually improving metal removal machine processes. This includes precision grinding, honing, and CNC milling of various components, ensuring tight tolerances and maintaining CPK capabilities. The role involves hands-on experience with machining equipment, maintenance, and troubleshooting, as well as developing preventative maintenance plans and work instructions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, quality control, and project management is essential. Experience with Lean manufacturing principles and capital project development is also required.

Requirements

  • Professional experience with developing, maintaining, and continually improving metal removal machine processes.
  • Experience with finish precision grinding machining of ID/OD features on alloy steel components (tolerances as precise as .0015 microns).
  • Experience with finish honing machining of ID features on alloy steel components (tolerances as precise as .0015 microns).
  • Experience with CNC milling of Ductile iron casting components.
  • Experience with the operation of multiple types of metal removal machining equipment such as ID/OD precision Grinders, ID precision honing machines, CNC milling and turning machines.
  • Familiarity/experience with the maintenance of multiple types of metal removal machining equipment such as ID/OD precision Grinders, ID precision honing machines, CNC milling and turning machines.
  • Experience with writing Preventative Maintenance work orders.
  • Familiarity/experience with air gaging if ID/ OD features on alloy steel components.
  • Fixture design experience for part holding to facilitate machining high production.
  • Experience in writing detailed work instructions for all of the machining processes.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining PFMEA documents for all of the machining processes.
  • Experience working with and training operators and process technicians of the machining equipment.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams: Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, Toolroom, Maintenance, Lab, Project Management, EHS and Senior leadership.
  • Experience with RFQ development and capital projects.
  • Experience working on multiple projects with thorough communication to all depts involved.

Nice To Haves

  • Mazak experience a major plus.
  • Statistical Process Control experience a major plus for data and process analysis.
  • Kaizen Lean experience -using the tools of Kaizen to improve processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and continually improve metal removal machine processes, including finish precision grinding of ID/OD features, finish honing of ID features, and CNC milling of Ductile iron casting components.
  • Ensure CPK capabilities meet drawing/customer requirements for all machining processes.
  • Operate and maintain multiple types of metal removal machining equipment such as ID/OD precision Grinders, ID precision honing machines, CNC milling and turning machines.
  • Work with maintenance technicians, controls engineers, and machine tool suppliers for expedited equipment repairs and be self-sufficient in researching mechanical/electronic or PLC repairs and parts.
  • Write Preventative Maintenance work orders to maintain the life and accuracy of machining equipment and use the PM system to evaluate data to improve uptime.
  • Gain familiarity/experience with air gaging for ID/OD features on alloy steel components.
  • Design fixtures for part holding to facilitate high production machining.
  • Write detailed work instructions for all machining processes.
  • Develop and maintain PFMEA documents for all machining processes.
  • Train operators and process technicians on machining equipment.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, Toolroom, Maintenance, Lab, Project Management, EHS, and Senior leadership.
  • Utilize Kaizen Lean tools to improve processes.
  • Develop RFQs and manage capital projects.
  • Manage multiple projects with thorough communication to all departments involved.
