General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc•Scottsdale, AZ
•$90,359 - $97,771

About The Position

The Component Engineer – DMSMS Support Specialist monitors component life cycles, supplier product change notices, obsolescence notices, and material availability using tools such as SiliconExpert, Accuris/IHS, or similar systems. The role processes bills of materials (BOMs), validates BOM quality, decodes GDMS/SCD part numbers to manufacturer and orderable part numbers, and identifies incomplete or conflicting manufacturer data. The position assesses diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS) risks and their impact on design, production, and sustainment. It prepares standardized DMSMS and end-of-life reports, including potential alternate parts or sources, last-time buys, and redesign recommendations. It also prepares customer- and contract-required deliverables such as quarterly DMSMS roadmaps, BOM health summaries, status reports, and CDRL inputs. The specialist evaluates proposed replacements against form, fit, function, performance, and qualification requirements, and works with engineering, procurement, suppliers, quality, and program teams to implement approved solutions. The role maintains parts information, risk assessments, and resolution status, and communicates risks and progress to stakeholders. It also distinguishes basic model numbers from orderable part numbers, understands how manufacturers control product configurations, and determines whether parts are governed by military, National Aerospace Standards, NEMA, or other industry specifications, or identified by commercial manufacturer part numbers. A bachelor's or technology degree in engineering or a related specialized field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience, plus two years of relevant experience is required; a master's degree is also an accepted qualification. U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed within the facilities. The stated annual salary range is USD $90,359 to $97,771, with actual pay varying based on experience and other factors. The posting remains open until the position is filled.
