As a Component Design Engineer for the gas turbine Structures & Casings team, you will be part of the global Structures & Controls Engineering, Technology & Safety organization. You will develop complex engineering solutions that satisfy cutting-edge aerospace functional and physical requirements and also exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, OR JD/PhD in Mechanical Engineering
• Must be a US Citizen

Nice To Haves

• Technical writing ability / experience
• Previous experience designing aerospace structural components
• Previous experience designing investment and sand cast components
• Previous experience designing components manufactured via additive layer manufacturing, especially laser powder bed fusion processing
• Experience working in a New Product Introduction environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience working with all aspects of product design – customers, suppliers, other engineering specialties, shop floor personnel, etc.

Responsibilities

• Develop new component designs and design changes for high-performance gas turbine hardware and systems, which includes creating design concepts, optimizing concepts to a final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, performing dimensional analyses, supporting creation of drawings, delivering hardware for validation, and release of hardware to production.
• Perform analyses for gas turbine hardware and systems to substantiate suitability for new engine applications, extended performance of existing engines, and interface requirements.
• Present and defend design solutions and technical work to program leadership and other stakeholders.
• Support the supply chain in procuring hardware including review of supplier documentation, assessment of non-conforming hardware, and review of supplier change proposals.
• Support manufacturing, assembly, service, and aftermarket issues promptly as they arise to keep production on target and the fleet in operation.
• Perform investigations of in-service and/or development hardware issues including failure analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), reporting, and documentation.
• Share findings with the global turbomachinery team in accordance with export control regulations.
