About The Position

Relay's mission is to improve the success rate of small businesses by offering an all-in-one, collaborative money management platform that serves employer SMBs and their finance functions. The company is experiencing rapid growth and is expanding its Compliance team to protect its platform, customers, and regulatory standing. They are seeking a data-driven, detail-oriented problem solver to enhance compliance monitoring capabilities and strengthen partnerships with their sponsor bank, moving beyond maintaining existing processes to building new ones. As a Compliance Analyst, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development and ongoing management of Relay's compliance monitoring program. This includes designing frameworks, testing procedures, and reporting mechanisms to ensure products and operations adhere to regulatory requirements. You will also serve as a primary point of contact for the day-to-day partnership between Relay and its sponsor bank, ensuring alignment on compliance expectations, exam readiness, and issue resolution. Your role is crucial in shaping how Relay identifies, monitors, and remediates compliance risks, while maintaining a strong relationship with the banking partner, supporting the business's rapid pace, and ensuring a seamless customer experience. Your work will directly contribute to the safe and confident operation of millions of SMBs and the integrity of Relay's banking partnership. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about using data and process rigor to solve significant problems, building compliance programs from the ground up, and acting as a trusted partner to both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in compliance, risk, audit, or a related field, preferably in fintech, banking, or payments.
  • Experience building or running a compliance monitoring or testing program, or eagerness to build one from the ground up.
  • Comfortable working directly with a bank partner or regulator, and understanding the importance of a strong, trusted partnership.
  • Proficient in SQL (joins, aggregations, window functions, subqueries) and ability to write efficient queries with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to own projects from start to finish, defining the problem, diving into the details, and driving solutions to completion.
  • Strong communication skills, translating complex compliance topics into clear, actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to navigate cross-functional work with Risk, Product, Engineering, and Operations.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, tackle ambiguity, build process where none exists, and raise the bar across the team.
  • Actively using AI tools in how you work today and excitement to push what's possible with them.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own Relay's compliance monitoring program, including designing testing methodologies, monitoring schedules, and reporting frameworks.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship between Relay and our sponsor bank, serving as a primary point of contact on compliance matters, exams, and audits.
  • Analyze account, transaction, and operational data to identify compliance gaps, emerging risks, and areas for control enhancement.
  • Execute ongoing compliance testing and reviews, document findings, and produce clear reporting for internal stakeholders and our sponsor bank.
  • Track identified issues through to remediation, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and validated in a timely manner.
  • Partner with Risk, Product, Engineering, and Operations to embed compliance requirements into new features, products, and processes.
  • Monitor changes in applicable regulations and guidance, and translate them into updates to our monitoring program and controls.
  • Iterate on monitoring processes, tools, and documentation to increase efficiency and scalability as Relay grows.
  • Translate compliance findings into clear, actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders, including our sponsor bank.
