About The Position

The Coding Compliance Educator provides coding, documentation, and compliance education to providers and clinical leadership across assigned service lines. The role translates audit findings, regulatory guidance, and coding trends into clear, practical education and responds to provider questions using authoritative guidance. This position partners closely with Compliance Audit and clinical leadership to support consistent, accurate, and defensible coding and documentation practices.

Requirements

• Advanced knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, and professional-fee coding.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
• Working knowledge of CMS documentation and billing requirements.
• Ability to research, interpret, and clearly communicate authoritative regulatory and coding guidance.
• Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
• Ability to analyze audit data and identify recurring trends and education opportunities.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment when addressing complex or sensitive provider questions.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and independently manage assigned provider/site education.
• Strong written communication and educational-content development skills.
• Active coding credential such as CPC, CCS, CCS-P, COC, RHIT, RHIA, or comparable credential required.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive professional coding compliance auditing or provider education experience required.
• Experience researching and applying CMS and other authoritative coding and documentation guidance required.

Nice To Haves

• Direct experience educating physicians, advanced practice providers, or clinical leadership strongly preferred.
• Experience developing and presenting coding or compliance education preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, education, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver coding, documentation, and compliance education to providers and clinical leadership across assigned service lines.
• Translate audit findings, coding trends, regulatory changes, and identified risk areas into clear, practical education and guidance.
• Respond to provider and clinical leadership questions regarding coding, documentation, billing, and compliance requirements in a timely, professional, and non-punitive manner.
• Research, interpret, and apply authoritative coding and regulatory guidance, including CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, CMS requirements, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
• Create and maintain educational materials, presentations, job aids, tip sheets, and other resources to support accurate and compliant coding and documentation practices.
• Prepare for and facilitate provider, site, and clinical leadership education sessions, including presentations related to audit findings, coding updates, documentation requirements, and best practices.
• Partner with Compliance Audit to review audit findings, identify recurring trends, and determine appropriate education priorities.
• Analyze audit and monitoring results to identify patterns, variations, emerging risks, and opportunities for targeted education.
• Support development and maintenance of standardized education content to promote consistent messaging across providers, sites, and service lines.
• Collaborate with Compliance Audit, clinical leadership, Revenue Cycle, and other stakeholders to address coding and documentation concerns and support corrective actions when appropriate.
• Maintain current knowledge of healthcare coding, documentation, billing, regulatory requirements, and industry guidance through continuing education and professional development.
• Exercise independent judgment and discretion when addressing complex or sensitive coding and compliance matters.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, provider, proprietary, and other sensitive information.
• Participate in department projects, process improvement initiatives, and other compliance activities as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
