About The Position

The Compliance Deputy is responsible for enforcing compliance with sex offender registration requirements, regulatory laws governing game rooms, and assisting with Child Protective Services follow-up investigations. This role involves carrying out the Sheriff’s Mission and Vision, adhering to the Office’s Core Values, and cultivating high morale and a Team culture. The Deputy must maintain proficiency in essential functions, firearms, and the Office’s Physical Fitness Program. Key duties include conducting compliance checks for registered sex offenders, verifying their information, investigating violations, and preparing cases for prosecution. Additionally, the Deputy will inspect game rooms and regulated establishments for compliance with laws, permits, and licensing, and investigate related complaints. The role also involves assisting with Child Protective Services investigations, serving as a liaison with regulatory agencies and prosecutors, collecting and preserving evidence, maintaining accurate records, and testifying in court. Field investigations, surveillance, interviews, and maintaining confidentiality are crucial. The Deputy may also provide public education and participate in after-hours call-outs and special enforcement operations.

Requirements

  • Intermediate Peace Officer license
  • Minimum 1-Year Patrol Experience
  • 21 Years of age or older
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Be a United States Citizen (Born or Naturalized)
  • Have a working cell phone
  • No more than 20/200 vision that is correctable to 20/20
  • No convictions or court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order
  • Honorable Discharge from Military Service (If applicable)
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of the local and state criminal justice system.
  • Intermediate proficiency with modern office equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to become proficient in all County and Department policies and procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a constantly changing work environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make well-reasoned decisions under high-stress conditions.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts compliance checks and enforcement activities related to registered sex offenders to ensure adherence to registration requirements, residency restrictions, and court-ordered conditions.
  • Verifies offender residence, employment, vehicle information, and reporting requirements in accordance with state law and departmental policy.
  • Investigates violations of sex offender registration and compliance statutes and prepares cases for prosecution.
  • Conducts inspections and compliance checks of game rooms and regulated establishments to ensure adherence to applicable laws, permits, and licensing requirements.
  • Investigates complaints and suspected violations related to illegal gaming or non-compliant operations.
  • Prepares reports, citations, affidavits, and related documentation for enforcement actions and administrative proceedings.
  • Assists with follow-up investigations and welfare checks on reports from Child Protective Services (CPS).
  • Serves as a liaison with regulatory agencies, prosecutors, and other law enforcement entities regarding compliance matters.
  • Collects, documents, and preserves evidence related to compliance and regulatory violations.
  • Maintains accurate records, databases, and compliance documentation in accordance with policy and legal requirements.
  • Testifies in court, administrative hearings, and related proceedings as required.
  • Conducts surveillance, interviews, and field investigations related to compliance enforcement.
  • Maintains professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality when handling sensitive compliance and CPS-related matters.
  • Provides public education and guidance to regulated individuals or businesses regarding compliance requirements when appropriate.
  • Participates in after-hours call-outs and special enforcement operations as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
