About The Position

This position is responsible for representing clients in all areas of insurance defense practice, handling cases that are primarily high complexity and exposure and/or involve unique insurance defense issues. Manages all phases of cases from intake to resolution. Assumes first and/or second chair responsibility for reassigned cases that are in the late stages of litigation.

Requirements

Licensed to practice Law in applicable states required upon hire.
Experience handling matters that are high complexity and/or exposure, including first chair jury trial experience, and/or comparable court experience required.
Expansive knowledge of both procedural and substantive law.
Superlative skills in all areas including, but not limited to, trial, public speaking and/or communication, case preparation, strategy, advocacy, negotiations, depositions, expert witnesses, damages, analysis/evaluation, reporting and client/customer service.
Strong verbal communication and listening skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to command the attention of an audience.
Demonstrated problem solving skills.
Ability to represent the company with external constituents.
Handles conflict effectively with the ability to quickly interpret and respond to new information.

Nice To Haves

Bachelors degree preferred.
Multistate jurisdictional practice strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Litigates cases of high complexity and exposure, which may involve unique legal or procedural issues in all venues to full resolution through trial and/or settlement.
Preparation of pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs.
Acts as the lead attorney at hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and/or trials.
Develops and utilizes strategies and arguments to thoroughly prepare for trial.
Utilizes knowledge of legal precedents to analyze the probable outcome of a case.
Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of approaches to a case.
Performs or ensures completion of any other tasks or duties necessary for the proper representation of clients.
Assumes responsibility to act as first or second chair for cases that are in the late stages of litigation, including trials, when necessary.
Handles any matter assigned within their State of licensure and courts of admittance and may be required to seek admission and handle matters in other jurisdictions.
Leads knowledge sharing of industry legal trends and developments.
Provides job-related guidance, mentoring, and training to other attorneys.
Consults with Claims Executive team and renders legal strategy recommendations regarding the legal aspects of the handling of personal injury claims.
Provides guidance to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Interprets applicable industry laws, rulings and regulation.
Functionally supervises attorneys who are assisting in the handling of cases as development opportunities.
Provides guidance and mentorship with the autonomy to learn.
