About The Position

Responsible for managing all aspects of the property tax compliance process, specializing in complex and centrally assessed property at the state and local levels. The role focuses on utility and energy-sector clients, including electric and gas utilities, pipelines, and power generation assets (renewable and conventional). This position oversees return preparation and review, develops client relationships, supervises team members, and leads strategy for complex utility and multi-state compliance engagements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of property tax experience
• Prior supervisory experience
• Strong understanding of utility asset structures and accounting, as well as apportionment methodologies used in centralized filings
• Familiarity with FERC or state utility regulatory reporting
• Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to meet travel requirements
• Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

• Experience managing utility, energy, or centrally assessed property tax engagements strongly preferred
• Experience with property tax software (PTMS, OneSource, PowerPlan or similar systems)

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review complex property tax returns and workpapers, including centrally assessed and utility-specific filings
• Oversee preparation of unitary and multi-state filings for utility and power generation clients
• Review workpapers and returns prepared by team members and provide technical guidance
• Advise on utility asset classification and reporting across generation, transmission, and distribution
• Evaluate and apply state-specific utility apportionment methodologies
• Review reconciliation of property tax returns to fixed asset systems and, where applicable, regulatory filings (e.g., FERC or state commission reports)
• Perform industry and economic research, including utility sector trends and valuation considerations
• Manage property tax calendars and ensure timely filings and payments
• Oversee tracking of notices, assessments, and tax bills
• Review funding requests and ensure proper cash management for client accounts
• Manage client relationships, including utility and energy-sector portfolios
• Lead or support new client implementations, including large-scale utility portfolios
• Participate in business development, including scoping work for complex utility engagements
• Lead or support appeals, valuation discussions, and negotiations for utility and centrally assessed properties
• Represent clients during audits and formal appeals
• Collaborate with other service lines to support shared utility and energy clients
• Assist leadership with strategic initiatives and special projects
