About The Position

The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is seeking passionate, knowledgeable, and positive coaches to join their Tumblettes competitive gymnastics program. The program serves gymnasts competing in USAG Development Program Levels 2–9 and Xcel Bronze through Sapphire. Coaches will help athletes develop skills, prepare for competitions, overcome challenges, and reach their personal best. This role involves mentoring young athletes and contributing to a supportive team culture. Requirements

  • At least two years of experience coaching USAG Development Program Levels 2–9 and Xcel competitive gymnastics
  • Strong technical coaching and spotting skills
  • Ability to coach across all four women’s gymnastics events
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, athletes, families, and program leadership
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and physically support athletes while spotting
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and encouraging training environment
  • USAG Professional Membership or willingness to obtain membership immediately upon hire
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing training plans, conditioning programs, and meet-preparation cycles
  • Experience spotting advanced-level skills and managing athlete progressions
  • Experience traveling with a competitive team
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, sports management, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Coach gymnasts across USAG Development Program Levels 2–9 and Xcel Bronze through Sapphire, based on your experience and areas of expertise
  • Teach progressive skill development, strength, flexibility, and proper technique
  • Lead practices across Vault, Bars, Beam, and Floor
  • Safely and confidently spot athletes at a variety of skill levels
  • Develop training plans, conditioning programs, and competition preparation cycles
  • Help athletes set goals and track their progress throughout the season
  • Prepare athletes for meets and travel to competitions as needed
  • Provide positive, constructive, and age-appropriate feedback
  • Mentor athletes in a supportive and affirming manner
  • Collaborate with fellow coaches to maintain consistent expectations, curriculum alignment, and a strong team culture
  • Communicate professionally with athletes, families, and staff
  • Support injury prevention and appropriate return-to-training progressions
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional training environment
  • Model the YWCA’s commitment to equity, empowerment, inclusion, and positive youth development
  • Travel to and attend competitions as assigned, including meets that may take place on weekends
