About The Position

Markel is seeking a skilled and detailed-oriented analyst to join their HR team and support core compensation and equity programs. In this role, the analyst will lead the salary survey and benchmarking process, help maintain job architecture and salary structures, and provide day-to-day administration for equity and deferred compensation plans. The analyst will partner closely with Payroll, Finance, HR, Legal, and Tax to ensure accurate transactions, timely employee support, and strong data integrity while maintaining the utmost discretion and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years experience in Compensation and Equity or related field
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, with an ability to model and interpret data.
  • Self-starter; able to work independently with the ability to manage a varied range of activities and projects with a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrate skills in AI or possess professional curiosity to leverage such tools to optimize process.
  • Role model the Markel Style with a high level of integrity and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end to end compensation salary survey process. This includes participating in compensation salary surveys, maintaining the survey levelling guides, benchmarking roles and ensuring Market Pay is up to date.
  • Provide governance of salary structures, job architecture, data audits, data integrity, and compensation mailbox.
  • Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support for the company’s equity programs, including restricted stock, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), and stock loan program.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding equity-related questions, transactions, and timelines, delivering clear, timely and accurate responses.
  • Process equity transactions across the lifecycle, including grant set up, vesting events, exercises, ESPP enrollments and purchases, and stock loan activity, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to plan rules.
  • Assist with the administration of deferred compensation plans by supporting the deferral election process, including participant communications, data entry, calculations, tracking elections, and reporting.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders (payroll, finance, HR, legal and tax) to support equity transactions, resolve issues, and ensure smooth end-to-end administration.
  • Support the global expansion of equity programs as needed.
  • Support compliance and audit activities, including SOX controls, internal audits, and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements, documenting procedures and suggesting enhancements to workflows, controls, and employee experience.
  • Assist with testing and implementation of equity program changes, system updates, or new vendors, including user acceptance testing (UAT) as needed.
