About The Position

We are looking for a Commuter Welder to join our team. A Commuter Welder is a skilled welder who performs welding tasks autonomously, including the selection and use of appropriate techniques and equipment, and applies these technical skills with minimal supervision. They are responsible for performing MIG & TIG welding, layout, tacking, fabrication and building functions in the manufacture of various products in accordance with product specifications. This position is based out of Sauk Rapids but requires travel to other company plant sites in Winsted, MN depending on project demands. The ideal candidate is comfortable commuting, able to adapt to different work environments, and committed to maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity. Successful completion of internal welding test is mandatory. Millerbernd Manufacturing Company is an AWS (American Welding Society) Sustaining Company Member.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of internal welding test is mandatory
  • Proficient knowledge in interpreting blueprints, mechanical drawings, and weld symbols
  • Ability to operate hoists, cranes, and other powered industrial vehicles as needed
  • Ability to operate various power and hand tools
  • Experience in use of weld positioners, turners, fixtures and equipment
  • Ability to perform basic shop math functions
  • Ability to electronically record production information
  • Ability to read and understand required internal manufacturing paperwork
  • Ability to work with others as part of a high-performance team
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
  • Able to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or procedures
  • Accurately use tape measure and precision measuring instruments
  • Operational knowledge of Electric Plasma and Acetylene Torch
  • Proficient in welding techniques on flat, vertical and rotating planes

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred candidates will have 3 years’ experience in metal fabrication/welding experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform the following GMAW welds – butt – V – single bevel and fillet welds on carbon steel & Stainless Steel with either .045 and/or .062 diameter wire
  • Perform GTAW welds – butt – V – Single Bevel and fillet welds on carbon steel & stainless steel
  • Produce welds that pass visual & Ultrasonic Inspection
  • Can perform necessary repairs that pass adhere to MMC Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and CWI inspection requirements
  • Read and understand MMC WPS’s – select appropriate wire and shielding gas and weld within WPS weld parameters
  • Proficient in print reading and understands weld symbols and welding gauges
  • Can perform welds using following wires – solid – flux core and metal core as needed.
  • Perform carbon arc gouging and recognize when any and all defects have been removed
  • Layout and tack to specifications
  • Use grinder or other appropriate tools to clean, smooth out, grind or finish parts as needed while adhering to safety standards
  • Use various machines to fabricate, build, and design products
  • Monitor the production board and internal paperwork to perform tasks in the designated sequence
  • Accurately label all parts for routing to next operation
  • Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required
  • Enter job data in production tracking system
  • Use crane, hoist, forklift or other material handling equipment to transport materials and products into and out of the work area as required
  • Must be AWS GMAW & GTAW-certified
  • Ensure use of safe work procedures and wear all required PPE
  • Perform work at the appropriate pace to maintain quality and productivity requirements
  • Follow company policies in relation to safety, cleanliness, attendance etc.
