About The Position

The Office of Student Engagement oversees community building programs and seeks a student worker to support programming for commuter students. This position reports to the Associate Director for Recreation & Commuter Engagement. The Commuter Engagement Group Leader will serve as the student officer on the Commuter Engagement Board which hosts weekly meetings and monthly events both on and off campus. The New School was founded by forward-thinking educators in 1919 to defy the intellectual constraints of a traditional college education. As a New School employee, you will be a part of the university’s mission to prepare and inspire students to bring about positive change in the world.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled New School student who qualifies for Federal Work Study
  • Demonstrated commitment to community building and teamwork
  • Reliable, organized, and communicative
  • Able to manage a hybrid schedule and confirm weekly changes for event staffing
  • Able to commit to weekly meetings on Thursdays from 4-5 (in person) OR Fridays 4-5 (on zoom)
  • Must be able to work at least one weekend or evening event per month

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in an office or community building environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a student officer on the Commuter Engagement Board, which hosts weekly meetings and monthly events both on and off campus.
  • Create content for the Commuter Group’s NarwhalNation and Instagram pages.
  • Reply to student inquiries related to commuter discounts, events, and services.
  • Staff events, meetings, and office hours in person.
  • Prepare for events and hold virtual office hours remotely.
