About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Mental Health Supervisor (Skill Building), develops, monitors, and implements individual skill building activities for consumers participating in out of home skill building activities. Coordinates activities for and provides direction to direct care staff. Develops skill building curriculum and coordinates the work assigned staff to insure compliance with standards of support methods and monitoring. Reviews documentation to ensure compliance to Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA) policies and procedures. Performs as liaison with reimbursement and audit personnel. Assumes delegated responsibilities for Community Ties management in the absence of the Mental Health Supervisor. May review attendance and other paperwork for the purpose of billing. This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support culturally competent recovery based practices; person centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his/her life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and a trauma informed culture of safety to aid consumer in the recovery process.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities if supporting that population.
One year of professional practice and experience in an adult activity or comparable setting.
Valid Michigan Driver’s license with a good driving record.
Ability to read and understand casework notes, forms, reports and documents from a variety of sources.
Possession of a valid unrestricted Michigan Driver’s License and the ability to provide and operate a motor vehicle in the performance of the official duties of the job.
Ability to research, develop and implement curriculum, in-service, and training materials, aids, and methods.
Must be able to respond to varying situations with tact and diplomacy.
Functional knowledge of Microsoft office, Word and Excel.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to embrace and practice the concept associated with Person Centered Planning.
Hearing acuity to converse in person and on telephone.
Visual Acuity to observe consumers behavior, read and proofread documents and use CRT.
Manual dexterity to write and to operate standard office equipment (PC, Keyboard, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, etc.).
Physical strength to perform physical and/or behavioral intervention.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push wheelchairs, and lift shear weight up to100 pounds.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees and the general public.
Analytical skills necessary to conduct research, analyze and interpret complex data and identify and solve problems by proposing courses of action.
Ability to plan short and long ranch and schedule time.
Ability to handle stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and/or consumers.

Responsibilities

Provides direction to staff regarding issues related to out of home skill building activities.
Observes staff performance related to job duties and adherence to core values and operating principles making the supervisor aware of ongoing issues and need for corrective action.
Acts as liaison between clinicians, support coordinators, direct care staff, and the public in clinical and administrative matters as appropriate to assigned areas of responsibility.
Manages skill building site operations and staff in the absence of the site Supervisor, revising and scheduling staff coverage as necessary for effective operations. Works hands on with consumers to perform direct care and/or skill building related interventions as assigned by supervisor.
Assigns, retrieves and analyzes data and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable policies and standards.
Facilitates and participates in periodic meetings with professional, support, and direct care staff; participates as assigned on clinical, administrative, or other committees.
Facilitates the development of skill building/training sites in the community, including site registration, review and monitoring.
Coordinates skill building sites with transportation schedule to arrange smooth and orderly access of service consumers.
Develops instructional materials and methods for use in providing in-service training to professional, support, and direct care staff.
Coordinates referrals for new enrollments at each site.
Participates in a peer review of staff performance in preparation for each staff’s annual evaluation.
Adheres to the mission, vision, core values and operating principles of SCCMHA at all times.
Performs various administrative/clerical functions such as preparing travel vouchers, making copies of documents, filing, time management, data collection, reporting, etc.
Attends meetings, seminars, workshops, and community events related to the public mental health mission.
May occasionally transport consumers to and from agencies and community resources in personal automobile or agency vehicle.
React productively to change and handles other essential tasks as assigned.
Participates in CQI functions.
Uses computer hardware and software to perform tasks.
