About The Position

Camphill Communities Ontario is seeking a Full-Time Permanent Community Support Professional for their Supported Independent Living (SIL) program. This new position involves supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in their own homes and within the community. The role focuses on helping individuals work towards their goals, teaching life skills, community integration, and social skills essential for daily living. The scheduled hours are modified to meet the needs of the individuals supported, including a combination of days, evenings, and weekends. The position is located in Barrie, Ontario, with travel throughout Simcoe.

  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills and effective documentation skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills; MS Office, BambooHR, Inclusion, AIMS or other data base management platforms.
  • DSW College Diploma or 2+ year diploma or degree in Human Services from an accredited post-secondary institution with a focus on human development and/or behaviour.
  • Three (3) years’ experience working with people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Successfully trained in and possess current certifications in First Aid & CPR, NVC, and Medication Administration.
  • Hold a valid Ontario G Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract, and have access to a reliable vehicle with sufficient insurance.
  • Able to provide a current (within 6 months’) satisfactory Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and support as needed to people with developmental disabilities in their own homes and within the community.
  • Assist individuals in working towards their goals, teaching life skills, community integration, and social skills that assist with daily living.
  • Utilize a personal outcome philosophy-based approach to support individuals in making informed choices that lead to successful attainment of their goals and aspirations.
  • Inform individuals about options, provide opportunities and experiences, support the exercise of choice, and educate about risks and benefits.
  • Support individuals in developing a plan and achieving their goals using Personal Outcome Measures.
  • Empower people to support themselves to be healthy, happy, and safe.
  • Resolve conflicts diplomatically and reasonably.
  • Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and creativity.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within the team and with the organization.
  • Promote practices that are inclusive, respectful, and sensitive to diverse communities, including age, culture, and language.
  • Monitor and promote practices that support people’s health and safety.
  • Design, implement, and monitor the progress of activity and recreational programs consistent with people’s Support Plans to enhance their physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Advocate for and respect confidentiality at all times.
  • Apply appropriate responses to unpredictable behavior.
  • Maintain all required program records and documentation.
  • Support other relevant duties that may be developed or assigned by the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the Individuals Supported, Community, and CCO.
