The Community Services Division (CSD) empowers and supports residents, schools, and local organizations to make the city more livable, safe and clean. CSD is comprised of three core service program areas - BeautifySJ, Grantmaking for Community Impact, and Youth Intervention Services. Overseen by a Deputy Director and two Division Managers, there are 148 full-time equivalent employees and an operating budget of approximately $46 million along with various sources including State, Federal and other special funds. The Grantmaking for Community Impact (GCI) Team within CSD strategically invests public resources to improve the health, safety, and well-being of San José residents. The team manages the full lifecycle of competitive grant programs—from program design and funding strategy to procurement, contract management, performance monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement. The GCI Team oversees millions of dollars in annual grant funding that supports nonprofit organizations, neighborhood groups, schools, and community partners delivering services in youth violence prevention and intervention, neighborhood revitalization, older adult wellness, and other community priorities. The team ensures that public investments are transparent, equitable, data-informed, and aligned with City Council priorities and community needs. The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department (PRNS) is currently recruiting for one Overstrength Community Services Supervisor within the Grantmaking for Community Impact Team. PRNS was awarded $3,959,448 through the Proposition 64 Public Health and Safety Grant Program, administered by the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC).
