About The Position

This position is a non-sworn position working under the general supervision of an assigned shift supervisor. Assignments can include physical security, parking enforcement and services, communications dispatcher or a combination of these assignments.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to make quick decisions.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols campus roads and parking lots for enforcement of university traffic and parking regulations.
  • Issues traffic citations, installs wheel boots and arranges for tow of vehicles.
  • Identifies and reports theft or damage to traffic and parking control devices and signs.
  • Assists with installing parking signs and setting up signs, barricades and traffic cones for special campus activities.
  • Performs motorist assistance (i.e. provide directional assistance, battery charge) as needed.
  • Conducts traffic and parking surveys.
  • Assists with vehicle registration.
  • Directs traffic and parking for special campus activities.
  • Walks patrols on campus and in facilities to assure that security equipment and alarms are operating properly.
  • Places work orders for any equipment which needs repair.
  • Opens and secures facilities following a specified schedule.
  • Conducts interior patrols of campus facilities to assure that only authorized persons are in these facilities after normal hours.
  • Patrols grounds to identify suspicious activities and reports exterior lights that need repair.
  • Screens traffic entering the campus when the gates are closed to assure only authorized persons have access to the campus.
  • Receives information on requests for services, information or complaints; makes appropriate response through providing information, referral and dispatching public safety staff.
  • Monitors fire and security alarms systems, monitors severe weather conditions through the National Weather Service monitor and TV Weather Channel, makes appropriate notifications in response to these alarms and alerts.
  • Maintains accurate records through the computer aided software program, radio logs and other records on all calls, complaints and requests for services, work orders, security and safety reports and alarms.
  • Assists with specific assignments and service (i.e. processing tickets, temporary vehicle registration, maintaining and replacing crime prevention and tourist brochures, processing lost and found, and laminating signs.
  • Maintains positive and effective public relations in support of department and university through providing information and directions, assists with problems and complaints, processes requests for services and general assistance to the campus community and the public.
  • Completes orientation training program before being assigned to the field.
  • Participates in in-service training, field training, and off campus training programs to enhance their professional skills and performance.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Follows safety procedures.
  • Completes performance review process with supervisor/employees to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals.
  • Communicates openly and recognizes contributions of co-workers and supervisor.
  • Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up to date information about the department and university.
